How to Jump Serve a Volleyball
Step-by-step Instructions
Here is what you need to do...
Step 1
Purchase Volleyball: Steps to Success by Bonnie Kenny, available on www.amazon.com
Step 2
To jump serve, start with the ball in your swinging hand. Palm out in front of you, facing upward.
Step 3
Toss the ball in the air so that it has front spin on it. Make sure this toss is in front of you, but not so far that you will step over the service line.
Step 4
Do an approach just like spiking (left-right-left for right handed hitters, and the opposite for left handed hitters)
Step 5
As the ball begins to fall from its peak, jump in the air and attempt to strike the ball at the highest point of your jump.
Step 6
Follow through with your arm hitting the ball and following down to the same side of the body as the arm that you are swinging with. This will help to put topspin on the ball.
Special Attention
Difficulties people often experience or parts that need special attention to do it right.
Concentration, timing, and focus are key with jump-serving.
