How to Treat Muscle Spasms
Step-by-step Instructions
Here is what you need to do...
Step 1
Muscle spasms afflict weight lifters that are old, young, women, men, professional, and amateur. They're annoying, and they can sometimes get so frequent that they disrupt your concentration both in and out of the gym. Below, I'll go over a few simple ways to prevent muscle spasms as best you can, and in doing so allow yourself to tackle the weights with some serious and uninhibited intensity. Read on
Step 2
The first way to make a noticeable effort towards preventing muscle spasms is by eating a high amount of potassium. Potassium, along with curing cramps, can help majorly reduce muscle spasms. Bananas are an excellently efficient, delicious, and nutritious form of potassium that, if regularly consumed at least once a day, will easily make the difference between spasms and non-spasms.
Step 3
Another way to prevent muscle spasms is by consulting your doctor and figuring out a sufficient over the counter medicine. This method should only be sought-after if there are no other options: in essence, if the above option does not work, and the option that I will follow this paragraph with also does not work, then maybe seeking out a doctor's knowledgeable guidance is something worth considering.
Step 4
The other way that you can make leaps and bounds towards preventing muscle spasms is by keeping optimal hydration. Being hydrated will allow your muscles to sit relaxed, full, healthy, and happy. Without hydration, muscles tend to tighten up and, as a result, get inflicted with spasms. Hydration is the first method you should run towards, as it is virtually free and, along with preventing spasms, it offers a myriad of other health benefits, such as increased energy, vitamin boost, and natural/necessary lubrication for the workings of the entire body -from organs to muscles-.
Special Attention
Difficulties people often experience or parts that need special attention to do it right.
The most annoying part about trying to prevent muscle spasms is that they can sometimes strike anyway. In that case, get yourself a yoga mat and stretch your muscle so that it has every opportunity to loosen up and do away with any distracting and ceaseless spasms.

This Student Author's Background
Funny or interesting story about this topic...
I knew a kid who seemed like he was constantly in the best shape of his life. His arms were giant, his back was wide, and his abs practically stuck out from his body because his skin was so tight to his muscles as a results of a crazy lack of body fat. This kid, though, would constantly take breaks during his workouts to stretch. One day I asked him why he was doing that, and he told me it was because he always suffered from muscle spasms. By talking to him a little bit about his habits, I noticed that he lacked any sort of healthy level of hydration. I told him that even though he's worried about holding extra water weight around his mid-section, getting hydrated would be worth it in the long-run, as he would prevent himself from eventual injury. He listened and, believe it or not, has not had to interrupt his workouts for stretching ever since. And not only that, but he is still lean and mean just like before.
When did you first do this & how did you get started?
I have always experienced muscle spasms here and there. In order to combat them, I follow all of the above methods. They have always worked for me, and I hope that now they will work for you.
Happy lifting,
J
