How To Make The Basketball Team

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

Although the best strategy for making any basketball team is to outperform your competition, there are also several other keys that can help you get noticed by coaches.

Step 2

First, listen to your coach and understand what they value in a basketball player. Each coach is a little bit different in terms of what kind of attributes they value in a player, so it is your job to work towards displaying these attributes in your game. For example, one coach may value hustle and defense, in which case you should try to dive on the floor or take a charge. Another coach may appreciate a player who enjoys earning assists and getting their teammates involved in the game. If this is the case then you should focus on getting other players shots because that will make you look good in your coaches eyes.

Step 3

Second, always be on time and complete administrative tasks on time. Coaches will notice players that are responsible and prepared for their workouts. Players that fail to remember the little stuff (i.e. getting paperwork completed, showing up late, etc.) will stick out like a sore thumb. Make sure to never give the coach any extra reasons to prevent you from making the team.

Step 4

Third, look for ways to stand apart from the rest of the players trying out for the team. Coaches will notice players who take the little things seriously. This could mean that you help a teammate off the floor, or dive on the floor when no one else does, or it might mean that you bring a teammate water during a time out.

Step 5

Lastly, when tryouts come around be sure to highlight the strengths of your game. If you are a good shooter then try to display your shooting ability rather than do something your are not as comfortable with. Show the coaches how you can be an asset to the team instead of trying to be something you're not.
