How to Do a College Wrestling Workout
Step-by-step Instructions
Here is what you need to do...
Step 1
Cardio will be one part of your total wrestling workout. To increase your cardio will increase your endurance and will make you prepared for a wrestling match. Running is a good way to increase your cardio. Run around a track, on the sidewalk, on a tredmil, or anywhere else you can run a long period of time. Running long distance will help you last longer on the mat. Running sprints will help your endurance during intense moments during the match. Jumping rope is also a good cardio workout for wrestling.
Step 2
Strength is a huge component in wrestling. Strength comes from lifting weights, or other exercises that workout your muscles, and eating properly. To lift weights, you should find a workout friend so that he or she can help you in any emergency. Doing push ups, sit ups, and jumping rope are effective and simple workouts to do.
Step 3
Wrestling practice is the best workout you can do. During wrestling practice, you are creating muscle memory. This strengthens your muscles that are used during wrestling thus working out everything you need. You will also gain most of your endurance from practice. Running is a great way to increase your endurance, but practice is the most effective.
Step 4
The most important component to a wrestling workout is your diet. A diet is important to recover your lost calories and to build your muscles. A high carbohydrate and high protein diet is encouraged. Also it is important to eat many small meals a day. You should eat a snack about an hour before practice to provide you with proper energy. If you don't eat a balanced diet, you will not have the proper nutrients to perform at your best. This will cause your results to suffer. Drink plenty of water as this will help your nutrients flush through your body. The more water, the better.
Special Attention
Difficulties people often experience or parts that need special attention to do it right.
As you may know, wrestling is a sport that requires a weight class. Most wrestler will lose weight in order to be in a smaller weight class. The term "cutting weight" means that a wrestler is intentionally trying to lose weight to make his limit at weigh ins, which is held before a wrestling match. Don't starve yourself! It is an issue with wrestlers. They will cut out most of their water and food intake in order to lose the weight they need to lose. This is dangerous and will definitely prevent you from performing to your best.
