How to Calculate Body Mass Index Manually

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

All you need to calculate your BMI is your weight and height. You can use pounds and inches, or you can use kilograms and meters.

Step 2

The formula for pounds and inches is: your weight in pounds divided by your height in inches, squared. Then that number gets multiplied by 703. (703 is a set, constant in the formula)

Step 3

The formula for meters and kilograms is: your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters, squared.

Step 4

Additional Information: The conversion from pounds to kilograms is: pounds multiplied by 2.2 and the conversion from kilograms to pounds is just the opposite-divide kilograms by 2.2 to get pounds. The conversion from meters to inches is: meters multiplied by 39 to get inches. Conversion from inches to kilograms is just the opposite, divide inches by 39 to get meters.
