How To Do Football Kicking Drills

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

The most effective way to kick is to start by taking three steps back and two steps to the left (for right footed kickers) or two steps to the right for leftys. It's important to make sure your steps are the same each time as this will help build muscle memory.

Step 2

Next, take your first step towards the ball with your planting leg. This should also be the leg that is out in front. There will be three steps towards the ball: planting leg, kicking leg, planting leg. The last step should be even with the ball.

Step 3

Finally, swing your kicking leg through the ball connecting with the "sweet spot" on the ball.

Make sure to follow through with your kicking leg while keeping your head down to get optimal distance, power, and accuracy.

I started kicking footballs as a senior in high school. I was captain of the men's varsity soccer. I was approached by two of the football captains who explained how they needed a kicker so I decided to give it a shot. It clicked with me almost right away and I fell in love.
