How to Improve Your Volleyball Footwork

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

Purchase a DVD that shows proper footwork techniques, like the Developing Proper Footwork for Volleyball DVD by Jody Paperno-Garry, available on www.amazon.com

Step 2

Make sure you understand the proper technique before you start playing volleyball.

Step 3

To spike, right-handed hitters use a "left-right-left" approach, taking a small first step with the left food, a large step with the right foor, and a smaller step with the left foot to even your feet so that you can jump off of 2 feet and spike the ball. This process will be the opposite for left-handed hitters.

Step 4

When playing defense, don't cross your feet. Always remember to shuffle your feet and react to the ball as it comes to you.

Step 5

Do footwork drills to develop speed and quickness. Do sprints in the sand, ladder drills, jumproping, and shuffle exercises to become as quick as possible.

Special Attention

Difficulties people often experience or parts that need special attention to do it right.

It will take time to develop strength and quickness, but if you can understand the technique, the strength will come.
