How To Run Basketball Rebounding Drills

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

The first rebounding drill requires your players to compete at a high level for a short amount of time.

Step 2

Start with four players in the paint and have a coach stand out by the free throw line with the basketball. The coach should shoot the ball and intentionally miss so that the players have a chance to grab the rebound. It is every player for themselves underneath the basket.

Step 3

When one of the players has grabbed two rebounds, they are done with the drill and can step to the side. The process continues until all of the players have grabbed at two rebounds. This drill encourages physical play and hustle in order to secure the rebound.

Step 4

A second rebounding drill starts with three players on the wings and at the top of the key and three players in the paint. When the coach starts the drill the three players in the paint should start rotating in a clockwise motion.

Step 5

Another coach should be standing on the perimeter with a basketball and when he decides to shoot the ball, the players on the perimeter should run towards the basket and try to snag the rebound. The players in the paint need to stop their rotations and communicate to each other on who they are going to box out.

Step 6

If you want to add another wrinkle to the drill, give on the perimeter players a blocking pad to use when they crash the glass. This can give the defensive player a bigger challenge when they have to absorb the contact from the pad.
