How To Get a Bodybuilding Sponsor

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

The road to getting a bodybuilding sponsor is not easy. If you plan to do so, you need to be committed on all fronts. Getting a bodybuilding sponsor is definitely great, because sponsors typically provide workout clothing, gear, and sometimes even food and supplements. But sponsors do not pick up the average Joe. Below, I'll list a few different angles you need to go full-bore on in order to get in the race to obtain a sponsor. I can't guarantee that you'll actually get one- only you can do that through a very high amount of work output and a sizable amount of success. But if you want to stand a chance, read on for a few helpful tips

Step 2

Getting Big- First and foremost, if you plan to get a bodybuilding sponsor, you need to get big. Not just the kind of big that fits in with people at the gym, but the kind of big where even the other big guys come up to you and ask you for advice. There are a lot of different tips on this website that involve training methods and nutrition advice which can help you during this quest, and I highly recommend checking them out. Also, I personally would be taking a preworkout supplement in order to maximize my lifting ability and get as large as physically possible.

Step 3

Networking- Even if you're massive, without a fan-base you aren't worth looking at. There are a lot of big dudes out there that have physiques worth sponsoring, and the ones who build a following over social media are typically (if not always) chosen over the nobodies. Sponsors want to know that their brand will be seen and admired by a lot of other people. Having a following means that you are a living advertisement, which is basically required if you seek being sponsored. It's a two-way road in sponsorship; they help you continue your bodybuilding legacy, and you help them promote their brand. So, get out there and network in order to make yourself worth sponsoring.

Step 4

Winning- Being big and having a good network are definitely helpful, but winning competitions is a surefire way to get noticed by sponsors everywhere. You can't expect bodybuilding and fitness companies to sponsor people who don't perform at peak levels. So, get out there and start competing. After you win a few big competitions you'll find that sponsors come to you more than you have to go to them.

Step 5

Altogether, getting a bodybuilding sponsor comes down to operating at an extremely high level. You have to be big, be known, and win often. If you do these three things, although I can't make any promises, I can definitely assure you that you'll have a huge chance of obtaining a sponsor that helps you take your bodybuilding to the next level.

Special Attention

Difficulties people often experience or parts that need special attention to do it right.

Getting a bodybuilding sponsor is no joke. If you're even thinking of doing this, you better be prepared to dedicate yourself and your time 100% to the world of fitness. In fact, 100% may not be enough- you might have to go to 150%. I'm telling you, it's a highly competitive world when you strive to get sponsored in the fitness industry. But, by taking advantage of the different angles above, you'll give yourself the best chance possible to succeed in your goal.

Funny or interesting story about this topic...

I have worked out with a few winning bodybuilders in my hometown gym, all of which have been sponsored at some point. An interesting thing about being sponsored is that you aren't really allowed to hit the gym with your headphones on and tune everybody out- you have to continue networking in order to show your sponsor that you're providing them with a solid amount of advertisement. These bodybuilders in my home gym would constantly approach different lifters and offer them free supplement samples, advertise gear, or just talk about their sponsor in hopes that amateur lifters would be compelled to buy. You have to open yourself up and keep working, even after you get sponsored. The road to bodybuilding success is long and full of hard work. Are you up for it?

When did you first do this & how did you get started?

I personally have never attempted to get a bodybuilding sponsor, but I'm friends with a few different body builders that are sponsored, and from them I've learned the ins and outs of getting to that point. Listen to the advice that I wrote down in the above paragraphs, and above all, never stop striving to be better and better and better and better and...you get the picture.
Happy lifting,
J
