How To Become A Union Actor

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

Sometimes I go to a set, like when I became SAG eligible, I go in there and I just thought I was going to work on a set, get paid, a non-union rate, which is a lot lower. They ended up liking me and had me come back a few more days, they gave me SAG vouchers and now I am SAG-eligible. So, I could do SAG work if I wanted to, or non-union work.

Step 2

The trick there is, once you go into SAG, you cannot do non-union work anymore. And non-union work can pay really. really well on the right job.

Step 3

So, going back to your checklist, you do not want to have a checklist on there as, get into the union, because when you are eligible, if you join right away, the day after you join, you might find a non-union job that pays you a couple thousand. But, you cannot do it. So, you kind of have to know, OK I may be eligible, then if I come across the right SAG project, then I will join SAG and it will be beneficial. Whatever. So, just because you have things you want to get accomplished, doesn't mean you jump into it right away.
