How To Do Preacher Curls

Step-by-step Instructions

Here is what you need to do...
Step 1

The first step into performing preacher curls is to decide the appropriate weight. I find that if one takes the total weight they do for standing curls and subtracts ten percent of the total weight they will find it reasonable.

Step 2

Once the bar is loaded with reasonable weight, the next step is to adjust the height of the arm pad so that it is pressed snuggly aginast the underarms. This is to keep all weight focused on the biceps and little as possible on the front delts, back, etc.

Step 3

Finally, it is time to perform the exercise. Grasp the barbell with hands about shoulder width apart on the bar. Bring the bar up slowly towards the body and slowly back down for a total of 10-12 repetitions.

Special Attention

Difficulties people often experience or parts that need special attention to do it right.

Sometimes towards the end of the workout there isn't as much energy in the muscles. This can cause the athlete to use other muscles to help perform the exercise. Preacher curls are an exercise with a single, primary muscle; the bicep. Other muscles like the deltoids, trapezius, and lower back should not be used.
