Fraternity Life
Belonging to a fraternity can add a valuable dimension to college life. Many men find that their fraternity brothers become lifelong friends. In addition, you can make contacts through your fraternity that can help you as you begin your career. Holding office in your fraternity can help you develop valuable skills and can add a leadership role to your resume.
But everyone knows fraternity life can get pretty rowdy, especially if you live in the frat house. Part of what makes a fraternity, well, fraternal is that brothers are encouraged to act as a group. Most of the time, that's cool. Just don't forget who you are. Hazing is now illegal on most campuses, and others are adopting rules that provide immunity from discipline for students who call campus police to report possible cases of alcohol poisoning. Other infractions are not so easily forgiven, and dangerous pranks can get you and the fraternity suspended from campus. So when things start to get wild, keep your head.
A big part of a successful fraternity experience is choosing the right fraternity the one that fits your goals and personality. There are good tips on choosing the right fraternity in the book How to Join a Fraternity by Patrick Daley. You can find it on Amazon.
